Actor Rainn Wilson, best known for playing Dwight Schrute in “The Office,” is speaking out against the “Christian-bashing bias” of Hollywood.
On a recent podcast hosted by theologian Lee C. Camp, Wilson explained that faith conversations make the people in Tinseltown uncomfortable.
He said, “Frankly, I think it freaks people out, I think that most of Hollywood — especially comedians in Hollywood — talking about God is the uncoolest thing you can ever possibly do.”
He even share in a recent tweet this message: “I do think there is an anti-Christian bias in Hollywood,” Wilson added. “As soon as the David character in ‘The Last of Us’ started reading from the Bible, I knew that he was going to be a horrific villain.”
At one point he asked, “Could there be a Bible-reading preacher on a show who is actually loving and kind?”
The scene in question involves cannibals led by what appears to be a preacher. By citing Scripture, these people-eaters were supposed to justify their horrendous actions. additionally, it was reported that a preacher was later depicted trying to rape a woman.
There was an immediate reaction to Wilson’s tweet. There were even many that pointing out that Christians have been openly berating Hollywood for this bias for decades.
Surprisingly, despite his comments regarding Christianity, Wilson is not a practicing Christian. In contrast, he adheres to the faith of Baha’is, an Iranian monotheistic religion that emerged in the 19th century.
