It seems like there is no stopping the Christian pop duo For King & Country this year. Just two weeks ago, the Australian brothers, Luke and Joel Smallbone, won a K-Love Fan Award for Artist of the Year, and now, the duo has announced that they are working on two movies.
One of them will be a documentary entitled “Return to Sydney: The For King & Country Journey” and will tell the story of how Luke and Joel Smallbone, along with their singer-songwriter sister, Rebecca St. James, returned to Australia after having conquered the global music scene.
The documentary is in production now and is produced by their brother, Ben Smallbone. The movie will, for instance, contain never-before-seen videos from the duo’s two sold-out concerts at Sydney’s Opera House as well as home videos.
For King & Country’s second movie project is called “Unsung Hero” and is a family dramedy. It depicts the family’s journey from Australia to the United States and highlights how For King & Country’s mother, Helen Smallbone, uses faith to keep the family together.
“With the great partnership of Monarch Media and Radiate Films, we are inviting you to join our family’s radical journey. With thousands of hours of home camera footage, captivating interviews from key partners and friends and a defining show at Sydney’s Opera House, we are pulling back the curtain on our lives like never before,” Luke and Joel Smallbone said in a statement.
Gold-certified duo
A few weeks ago, Luke Smallbone, underwent surgery on his vocal cord and asked fans to pray for him beforehand. He has since recovered from the surgery.
Earlier this year, it was announced that For King & Country’s 2018 album, “Burn the Ships” had received an RIAA Gold Certification, meaning that the record has sold more than 500,000 copies in the United States.
“Burn the Ships” was released in 2018 and has yielded four singles; “Joy,” “God Only Knows,” “Burn the Ships” and “Amen.”
All of them have performed very well on the American charts. “Joy” and “God Only Knows” received gold certifications, while “Burn the Ships” and “Amen” got platinum certification, meaning that they sold one million units each.
The album is the third and highest-charting album to come from For King & Country, which consists of the brothers Luke and Joel Smallbone.
In 2020, the album won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album, while a remixed version of “God Only Knows” featuring Dolly Parton won for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song.
The deluxe version of the album called “Burn the Ships (Deluxe Edition: Remixes & Collaborations” was released on March 26th this year.
