Worship leader Phil Wickham lives “to light people’s hearts up for Jesus.” In essence, he wants to see a revolution within the church and a hunger for passion for the Lord in his music and ministry.
Wickham recently spoke with CBN News on the KLOVE Fan Awards red carpet. In the interview, he shared what motivates him to continue sharing his faith through music.
“The Lord has put a real fire in my heart to absolutely love creating songs that light people’s hearts up for Jesus,” Wickham said. “Specifically, our new prayers that we can sing together as worship songs.”
Wickham sees his music as both a gift and a responsibility. He feels immensely grateful for the opportunity to create worship songs that can move people closer to God.
“I don’t take one moment of that lightly,” Wickham said. “My heart burns for those opportunities, and so I’m so thankful I can do it.”
Despite the challenges, Wickham acknowledges the sacrifices that come with his calling. “It’s a calling, and sometimes it takes some sacrifice, being away from home, all that,” he noted. However, his commitment to his mission remains unwavering.
He has no plans to stop anytime soon, driven by his love for spreading the Gospel through music. “I’ll be doing [it] as long as people want to sing them,” he added.
Hopes for Revival
Wickham hopes to see the church ignite with massive revival. He envisions a movement drawing people back to the Lord, transforming their hearts and minds to be more like Him.
“My prayer would [be for] amazing revival in the church,” he said. Wickham desires this revival to “light a fire in people’s hearts to turn from wickedness.”
This, in his view, would turn people away from selfishness and judgmental attitudes toward the teachings of Jesus. Rather, Wickham desires that people begin showing the love of Jesus in a way that is “pure, and simple, and sweet to the world.”
Reflecting on his experiences, Wickham concedes that the church is vast; however, on some occasions, it may get complacent. Speaking from observation and practice, he emphasizes the desire for more passion and commitment.
“Just a new revival in the church, because the church here is huge — just sometimes it can get a little sleepy,” he said.
Growing Closer to Jesus Through Worship Music
Wickham’s passion for his music and mission is evident in his words and actions. He genuinely feels he has been called to create worship music that brings people closer to God. His songs try to inspire and transform hearts so that people draw even closer to the Lord.
Phil Wickham’s relentless pursuit to bring a heart for Jesus out in multitudes is still inspired. He shows his strong faith and commitment to the listeners by crafting worship music that breathes hope back into the church with rejuvenation.
Wickham’s desire to share the music comes from his inward leading to awaken the love of Jesus within every heart, an outward work. The worship leader’s vision caters to those with a deep yearning for spiritual connection and inspires a renewed, loving church.
