With an original video game, “Gate Zero,” themed around Scripture, the producer wants to engage young people in the Bible in a powerful, life-changing way.
The game transcends traditional gaming experiences by offering a bridge between faith and interactive entertainment. All of this is going on while fostering a space for reflection and exploration of sacred narratives in an entirely novel way.
As a result, in a time when young people are leaving the faith, Arve Solli believes his interactive video game could help re-engage them.
Solli explained that as players navigate through intricately designed levels, they encounter challenges that draw inspiration from biblical teachings. All of that is meant to encourage them to apply both their strategic thinking and their understanding of scripture.
He said, “We really want to dive into creating a video game for the younger generation to be able to experience Jesus and to be able to get familiar with the stories and the events from the Bible.”
His motivation stems from studies that show young people are becoming increasingly secular and less devoted to Scripture.
“This game might be the only Bible some people read, so that’s basically what we want to do,” explained. “We want to take players back — back to origin, back to zero and make them able to dive into this huge world of the biblical stories and events.”
“Gate Zero” sends players on a quest to unravel a mystery in a dystopian world in 2072. The idea for this game started with Solli’s team creating an interactive Second Temple model for a Christian youth camp in 2020.
“We believe that the younger generation needs to get familiar with the Bible”
After there years, “Gate Zero” is scaling the project to create an inspirational experience for young people around the globe.
Solli said, “We believe that the younger generation, they need to get familiar with the Bible, and they need to, at least when making decisions in life, they need to be able to understand on what ground they are taking the decisions.”
“So, we see the gaming medium as a really, really effective way of giving them context, telling the stories and also interacting with the stories. This is so they can understand the significance of the message that Jesus came with.”
Lately, it seems the idea is resonating in a big way. It also helps that the game’s captivating visuals and evocative soundtrack contribute to an atmosphere of reverence and contemplation. It allows players to engage with the content on a deeper level.
Luckly for us, in just a few days, the Kickstarter campaign for “Gate Zero” surpassed its goal, raising over $300,000.
Currently, Solli and his team plan to release a full version of “Gate Zero” in 2024, which will feature 30 stories from the Gospels.
Fans can currently play a 20-minute “Gate Zero” demo, with Solli and his team planning to release a full version of the game featuring 30 stories from the Gospels in 2024.
