Christmas is less than two months away, and holiday songs have slowly started to climb the charts. American singer Kelly Clarkson has joined the party by releasing her second Christmas album, “When Christmas Comes Around…,” on October 15th.
The album contains 12 original songs and cover versions of Christmas classics, such as “Santa Baby,” “Last Christmas” and “Jingle Bell Rock.”
The self-penned “Christmas Isn’t Canceled (Just You)” was released as the album’s first single in September and was followed by “Glow,” another Clarkson-written song, in October.
“When Christmas Comes Around” has already topped the American Billboard Top Holiday Albums chart and has, so far, peaked at number 16 on the British Digital Albums chart.
“Wrapped in Red”
Kelly Clarkson dropped her first Christmas album, “Wrapped in Red,” in 2013.
The album consisted of five original songs and eleven cover tracks. Among them were “Silent Night,” “White Christmas” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”
“Wrapped in Red” did well on the international charts, topping the American Billboard Top Holiday Albums chart and making it to the top five on the American Billboard 200 and the Canadian albums charts.
The album earned gold certification in Norway (15,000 units sold) and platinum certifications in Canada (80,000 units sold) and the United States (942,000 units sold).
International breakthrough
Kelly Clarkson rose to fame on the first season of American Idol in 2002 and has since then released nine studio albums.
“Breakaway” from 2004 gave her her international breakthrough with hits like “Since U Been Gone,” “Because of You” and “Behind These Hazel Eyes.”
The album peaked at number on the charts in the Netherlands, Ireland and the United States and made it to the top 10 in 16 additional countries.
“Breakaway” also brought in multiple certifications from around the world.
It sold 7x platinum in Australia (490,000 units sold) and Ireland (105,000 units sold), 6x platinum in the United States (6,355,000 units sold), 5x platinum in Canada (500,000 units sold) and the United Kingdom (1,590,000 units sold) and 3x platinum in Denmark (60,000 units sold) and New Zealand (45,000 units sold).
Books, television and movies
Apart from making music, Kelly Clarkson has appeared in a number of movies and tv series.
Since 2017, she has been a coach on The Voice, and in 2019, her very own talk show, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” premiered.
The show is still running and has produced more than 390 episodes.
“The Kelly Clarkson Show” has also earned her 10 awards.
In 2016, she released her first book, “River Rose and the Magical Lullaby,” named after her daughter.
The year after, the sequel, “River Rose and the Magical Christmas,” came out.
