Dennis Quaid, a seasoned Hollywood actor, has long captivated audiences with his versatile performances and charismatic presence on screen.
Quaid is known for films such as The Big Easy, The Right Stuff, Great Balls of Fire, The Rookie, The Day After Tomorrow, Wyatt Earp, A Dog’s Purpose, and I Can Only Imagine.
Lately, the actor has spoken about his life, career, and new album, Fallen: A Gospel Record for Sinners. He shared how his faith helped him overcome his drug addiction.
Quaid also stated that he was raised as a Christian and was very influenced by the Baptist church.
“As a child, I would go to Sunday school, and I always loved the singing part of the service,” the actor said. “I have even included some of those hymns in my new record.”
Despite his religious upbringing, the actor had fallen into cocaine addiction as he got older.
His addiction led Quaid to embark on a spiritual journey where he read books from various religions.
“I started reading the Bible again,” the actor said. “But I also read the Bhagavad Gita. I read the Dhammapada. I read the Koran. And I went back, and I read the Bible again, for, like, the second or third time. And I was really struck by the red words of Jesus.”
In response, Quaid began to develop a personal relationship with Christ, which led him to a more balanced place in his life.
Quaid later pointed out that when his wife arranged the order of the songs on the album, he realized that the song order symbolized his life’s journey. He said, “The album begins with the title track, ‘Fallen’ (my time riding with the Devil) and ends with being on my way to heaven in the song ‘I’ll fly away.’”
Nurturing Family Bonds and Embracing Faith
Beyond his on-screen achievements, Quaid’s personal life has also garnered attention, with his enduring commitment to family values and his deep-seated faith.
Quaid talked about his three children and how much he enjoys being a father. Moreover, he described himself as “a dorky dad.”
The actor also discussed how his bond with his wife, Laura, differs from his previous relationships.
He said, “Laura’s the love of my life. We have a bond that I never had with anybody else before. Yeah, God is in the relationship, for one thing, which I’ve never had a relationship like that before.”
Quaid went on to share that the album deals with how he lived his life apart from God.
“This album, Fallen, really is me,” he said. “At least for 20 years of my life, [I was] living in the world and wrestling with God, and kind of sitting too close to the devil at times without even knowing it.”
“I think I have some guardian angels out there looking after me because I made it through. I know some people who didn’t,” Quaid concluded.
And so, through his acting prowess, commitment to family values, and exploration of faith, Dennis Quaid continues to leave an indelible mark on both the entertainment world and the hearts of those who admire him.
