After once being homeless, the daytime host Steve Harvey credits his current wife for helping him to find true peace from within.
Known for being a successful American comedian and daytime TV host, Steve Harvey was once “a college dropout, a guy on his third marriage, a person who was homeless and lived in a car,” he said. “But one woman changed everything in my life.”
That woman Steve was referring to is his beloved wife, Marjorie Bridges, and it was she who gave the television personality the peace and joy he needed to reconnect with God. Through that relationship, Harvey was able to awaken his true self.
He explained once: “I started talking to God more often. I figured he probably knew more about where I should go than I did. He started showing me some stuff, and Marjorie started showing me stuff. I started developing a person inside of me that was able to come out. The real me was able to come out.”
“Eventually, I turned into a guy that was trying to help a lot of people and trying to put a smile on a lot of people’s faces,” Harvey added.
Steve Harvey: “You have to dream big and believe that you will succeed”
The much-celebrated Steve Harvey is an Emmy Award-winning entertainer, radio personality, motivational speaker, New York Times best-selling author, businessman, and philanthropist.
Steve Harvey was born Broderick Stephen Harvey on January 17, 1957, in Welch, West Virginia. His parents are coal miner Jesse Harvey and Sunday school teacher Eloise Vera Harvey. Having grown up in Cleveland, Ohio, he remains a Clevelander at heart.
Steve Harvey knew he wanted to be on TV from a young age. The stuttering African American boy in the 1960s achieved his dream despite all odds. In addition to his unrelenting pursuit, Harvey espoused the following life philosophy: “You have to dream big and believe that you will succeed.”
Initially, his Christian family did not have much, but their lives were full of faith. Harvey promised God before his fame that if he became a star, he would thank Him and spread His word to the world. During every show, Harvey thanks God and expresses his gratitude to the audience.
Harvey chose to enter comedy with a spirited show of faith. It was in 1985 when he was invited to perform at an open mic comedy night. After Harvey had a successful set that night, he quit his job the following day to follow his dream. He even said at one point, “You have to jump and take a leap of faith in order to soar.”
With that being said, success did not come easily. Harvey was left homeless, living in his car and traveling across the country for his performances. After all that struggle, Steve made his big break on Showtime at the Apollo in 1990 after winning a national comedy competition. It was then that his career began to take off.
As of now, Steve Harvey still holds the title of the busiest man in Hollywood. Furthermore, Harvey is a dedicated mentor and motivator for his fans, along with his work on screen, stage, radio, and in print.
